Jersey coming together to save wedding after fire

Jersey has come together to try and save a woman's wedding, after three of her bridesmaids dresses were destroyed in a fire.

A shop fire on Monday evening in St Helier (8 June) led to people in the flats above being led to safety, with no injuries reported.

The affected bride-to-be reached out on social media for help, which has led to a host of former brides and bridesmaids offering to part with their dresses, along with hundreds of other messages of support.

Age Concern Jersey also came forward with a donation that matches the wedding-colour scheme, and it's led to brilliant news!

Rachel Venton, from Age Concern Jersey charity shop, said:

"As soon as I saw it (the post), I couldn't believe the wedding was coming up soon, and they had this problem.

"I knew we had a dress that was perfect and so put a post up, and lovely Mel has been up this morning, it fits her perfectly, and she's going to wear it!"

The wedding is taking place on Saturday, so time is of the essence.

Ms Venton added:

"I felt like crying! I feel quite emotional for them all and just so happy that we could help her.

"Also, an anonymous customer paid for the dress for her, which was just lovely!

"They got in touch with me last night, and they must have seen that she was going to come in and try it on today, and said if she takes the dress, I'm paying for it!"
