The Musical Originals Choir have been named 'Young Choir of the World 2025' at the International Eisteddfod.
The choir has returned to Jersey from Llangollen in north Wales with the prestigious title after a 'triple triumph' from the premier global arts festival.
The group, which is a non-auditioned choir that welcomes anyone who is passionate, is a chorus of 35 girls and 2 boys between 8 and 18.
They won both their competitions - the Senior Children’s Competition and the Children’s Open Competition, with the highest scores ever awarded in the competition.
The singers were awarded 95% in the first competition and 97% in the second competition.
They were also awarded the title ‘Young Choir of the World 2025'.
Imogen Nicholls, director of the Musical Originals Choir, says they quite literally 'took on the world', and won:
"It's completely astounding. One of the judges told us they are the highest marks ever awarded to a children's choir in that Eisteddfod, which is the crème de la crème of Eisteddfods.
"There are huge choirs from all over the world. It's a 38-foot stage, the biggest tent in Europe, the biggest stage in Europe.
"The trophy is so heavy we couldn't get it on the easyJet flight back!
"In sometimes in as many as six parts, we sing in Chinese, Jèrriais, in all sorts of different languages, and we sing very complex classical music.
"They deserve this success so much. They have given up a lot for this; they wanted it and they got it. I am so incredibly proud of them."
Their next performance is at the Children's Festival at Jersey Art's Centre on the 15 July at 7 pm.
