Jersey Bulls FC 'surprised' and 'disappointed' by league restructure, which sees the undefeated women's team reset to zero points.
The South East Counties Women’s Football League Surrey Division One organisers have decided to split the league into two, meaning each team must reset, 12 weeks into the season.
The division will be divided into top and bottom halves, based on the current standings.
After their last match against Cranleigh, the Bulls women were top of the table, undefeated with 33 points.
No points will be carried forward from previous matches - meaning all teams will have the chance to fight for promotion again.
Club Chairman Adam Budworth says they are 'surprised and disappointed' to learn - several months into the season - that points would not carry over into the second phase.
"This was not our understanding at the start of the campaign.
"We raised our concerns directly with the league to share our view that resetting points diminishes the value of performances across the opening phase.
"Unfortunately, despite our representations, the league has chosen to maintain its position."
However, he continues to say, despite being 'baffled' by the decision, the squad has worked 'incredibly hard' to reach this position, and that effort will not disappear because of a reset.
"Our response will be to channel that energy into the next phase of the season, approach every game with the same intensity, and aim to win the matches that matter most."
Team Manager Chad Morris echoed that sentiment, saying it has been a great experience for the team.
"What we really need now is for our amazing fans to rally round and get behind the team once again to help us regain top spot, and push for promotion."
