Jersey artists to be involved in construction projects

ArtHouse Jersey and Ashbe Construction Ltd have announced a new partnership to embed artistic thinking into construction.

ArtHouse Jersey will identify and connect Ashbe with artists whose practices align with the scale and context of each local building project, whether that be residential, commercial, or infrastructure.

The artist will then be involved in briefs and collaborate with architects and construction teams.

It aims to create new prospects of commission for local artists within the construction and development sector, and to ensure that public art becomes a visible and valued part of everyday life.

CEO for ArtHouse Jersey, Tom Dingle, said,

“By working with Ashbe at this early stage in the development process, we’re able to place artists at the heart of how spaces are conceived and experienced.

This partnership allows us to create meaningful opportunities for local artists while helping shape environments that people genuinely connect with.”

Ben Cairney, Managing Director for Ashbe Construction Ltd, said.

"Partnering with Arthousec Jersey allows us to bridge the gap between structural excellence and cultural value, transforming the 'Percentage for Art' requirement into a meaningful investment in our island’s creative future."

Percentage for Art is a planning policy that requires developers to invest a proportion of the development costs into providing a piece of public art.
