Hottest Day Of 2022 In Store

Temperatures of 33°C are forecast today (17 June) and health officials are asking islanders to take sensible precautions to stay safe.

Temperatures have been building through the week and reached 28.8°C at Maison St Louis just before 4pm yesterday (16 June).

Highs of 33°C are forecast today, along with a UV Index of 8.

That would match the hottest ever June day in Jersey.

Advice to stay safe includes:

Shutting windows, pulling down shades, blinds or curtains to keep rooms as cool as possible
Staying out of the sun for long periods if possible and avoiding the hottest part of the day
Wearing suncreen and hats when outside
Having cool baths or showers
Drinking plenty of water and avoiding tea, coffee and alcohol
Wearing loose, cool clothing
Not leaving dogs alone in cars.

The new Water Play Area at Millbrook Park is expected to be open from mid-morning.

The government announced last March that the children's pool would be replaced and asked youngsters what they would like to see there instead.

Parents and carers are being encouraged to take the necessary precautions to make sure their children are protected.

We're also being reminded to make sure our pets are safe too - by not walking them in the extreme heat, not leaving them in a car and making sure they keep cool and well-hydrated.
