Around 30 people were evacuated from self-catering holiday apartments next to the Merton Hotel after a fire broke out in one of the flats.
A man woke to find flames and heavy smoke in his room at around 10.45pm on Tuesday (3 September).
He threw a fire blanket over the blaze before escaping.
The man was treated at the scene for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
The Fire and Rescue Service attended, and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the building to deal with the fire and smoke.
All the residents were moved to the nearby hotel.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
