A former Blue Badge tour guide has created a historical walking tour of Havre Des Pas.
Adrian Light is trained as a blue badge tour guide and has designed historical tours for holiday companies in the UK.
He has used his interest and passion to create a self-guided walking tour of Havre Des Pas for Dementia Jersey.
"I've always researched into things, (and) once I realised there was so much history packed into one area I couldn't stop myself, and the Ommaroo Hotel were more than happy to accept what I designed. You can't keep a good tour guide down."
The route is just over one mile, taking walkers through significant events in Jersey’s history. It explores the work of one of Jersey's most illustrious architects, domestic seaside architecture, and one of France’s greatest writers.
In the guide, you will find a route map and a detailed history of each landmark.
The buildings on the route tell the story of Havre Des Pas.
Adrian encourages walkers to 'look up' at the buildings: "Many feature lovely dormer windows, gables and ridge tiles. At ground level, you will also find ornamental railings. In the UK many railings were removed to provide material for armaments during WWII, but no such measures occurred in Jersey under German Occupation.
"It interested me that it has a rich history. The houses were designed to attract retired naval officers from the British Navy in the last half of the 19th century. You can see this in the names of the houses - there's a naval connection to ports in the names."
