Jersey oysters have been exported through a new inspection facility in Granville for the first time.
On 21 October, the Normandy Trader shipment was welcomed in Granville by Daniel Pillon, President of Ports de la Manche, alongside Departmental Councillors Yvan Taillebois and Sylvie Gâté.
The government says the Jersey Oyster Company export passed all veterinary checks without issue, and provides reassurance for future exports using the facility.
Environment Minister, Senator Mary Le Hegarat, said:
"It is fantastic to see Jersey oysters successfully exported through the new SIVEP facility in Granville.
"This is an important step in strengthening our links with Normandy and supporting sustainable export opportunities for Jersey's aquaculture industries. We will continue to work with our French counterparts to expand the range of species it can accept. This helps to reduce some of the challenges and costs introduced by Brexit.
"I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in both Jersey and France – this milestone is a result of many years of hard work."
