We're being urged to recycle responsibly after a car exhaust was dumped in a metal recycling bin at one of the island's mini recycling centres.
The car part was left protruding from a collection point at Goose Green.
Recycling Manager Emma Richardson-Calladine says such incidents cause so much trouble for them;
"Our contractor who manages these mini recycling sites is kitted-out to collect food and drinks cans out of our metal packaging bin. A car exhaust, big bits of metal - that's not what these bins are for. They are there to make everyday recycling easy."
Lightbulbs, mattresses and many types of furniture have are other more common examples of fly-tipping.
"Lightbulbs are a really nasty thing. If they are broken, we have to carefully manage that clean-up to make sure that we don't leave any glass or chemicals on site. Unfortunately it is becoming more of a recurrence."
The opening hours at the La Collette Household Reuse and Recycling Centre changed recently to encourage more people to dispose of larger unwanted items there.
