Jersey's first Professional Carers Day is celebrating carers and the work they do.

The event is an opportunity to learn more about the essential role of professional carers in the community.

At the cows statues in West's Centre, islanders can meet local care organisations and show their support for those who dedicate their lives to looking after for others.

There is the opportunity to learn more about a career in care by speaking to people in the industry. Skills Jersey is also offering career advice to anyone interested in pursuing care as a profession.

Visitors can find out about the day-to-day work of carers and how they support those in need by speaking to local care organisations.

Goodie bags, information packs and cakes are available at the event

Beth Gicquel, one of the event’s organisers said, "Today is about celebrating the role of the professional carer on the island. We're celebrating carers who work in a hospital setting, a care home setting, homecare, day centres, and anywhere else you can imagine.

"We've already had some lovely people stop by today and pick up one of our goodie bags. We're hoping lots more people will pop by and say hello.

"Volunteering carers do a fantastic job, and these are supported by our professional carers. Whether you're a volunteer or professional, come and say hello - we want to see everybody who is involved in care."

Also at the event is 'Patience' their professional care bear, for islanders to say hello to.

Beth said they are looking at this becoming a regular event:

"This is the first of what I hope will be many more to come in the future.

"We're also looking at establishing an event next year around education for professional carers so they can come together to meet and discuss issues around the future of care."

Beth and the team will be at The Cows until 4pm on Thursday (26 September).
