Birthday party at Rhona's to celebrate 20 years and £50,000 raised for charities

The much loved Rhona's in Gorey is celebrating its 20th birthday.

The owner of the much-loved Gorey café, Rhona Hewit, who has raised over £50,000 for local charities, is inviting islanders to help her mark 20 years of Rhona’s at the Beach.

The spot opened in 2005, is now famous island-wide for its fundraising fish finger sandwiches.

Each year, Rhona chooses a local charity to benefit from the proceeds of the sales.

Earlier this year, her fundraising total surpassed £50,000 - which she says has been going for around seven years

This year's chosen charity, Enable, which works to remove barriers for disabled islanders, is helping her organise a birthday bash to thank her for her generosity.

Danielle Self, from Enable, says:

"Rhona is a such a central part of our community and has helped us raise awareness of Enable Jersey and promote the services we provide.

As well from a financial point, being a small charity reliant on donation, it helps us to continue to provide support and services to those living with disabilities."

Rhona’s Beach Bash will take place at her café between 3 pm and 7 pm on Friday 8 August.

Islanders can bring their buckets and spades and enjoy family beach activities, pizza and, of course, Rhona’s famous fish finger sandwiches, with proceeds from the sandwich sales being donated to Enable Jersey.
