Plans have been lodged to improve the promenade and cycle path linking St Aubin and St Helier.

The Infrastructure Department says its plan will create an area where islanders will enjoy visiting.

The width of the cycle route would be widened to 3m, in line with recommended design standards.

The fencing opposite Bel Royal car park would be upgraded, a central shared space would be made for pedestrians and cyclists, and there would be a dedicated parking space for the emergency services.

There would also be more seating areas and stands for bicycles.

The department says the placement of the shelter makes it difficult for cyclists to see what's coming the other way.

It says one of the key improvements would be moving the cycle route to the rear of the shelter to improve visibility and create a clear separation between cyclists and people who use the shelter.

Islanders were asked to give their feedback on the proposed scheme in June.

87% of respondents said the area could be safer, and 81% supported the idea to move the cycle track to the rear of the bus shelter.
