A pencilled note from a German POW has been discovered while renovating a wooden window in St Peter Port.
Guernsey carpenter Gary Rich discovered the writing while repairing a traditional sash window in a house in the Grange:
"There was a broken cord (on the window) so I had to open up the pocket of the window to access the weight and I found the inscription inside."
It is written in pencil with the name 'Seng'' underlined and a date of 3 December 1945 inscribed below it. Underneath this is the number 805 or it could possibly be 811.

Gary says he spoke to a friend who knows about the occupation and found out more details:
"He was from a prisoner of war camp which was by the KG5 playing fields.
"This was in December in 1945 and prisoners were kept on to dismantle fortifications and repair damage to properties. The camp closed in 1946."
Gary says despite being interesting, the wood with the inscription is an integral part of the window and it will be put back in place.
