Vaccine Rollout Continues In Care Homes

GPs are going into Guernsey's care homes from today to give residents the Covid-19 vaccine.

Later this week, letters will be sent to islanders aged over 80s to book an appointment with their doctor for the jab.

It is estimated some 42,500 doses of a coronavirus vaccine will be administered in the Bailiwick by the end of March.

Subject to supplies from the UK, Guernsey is expecting to receive 18,500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 22,000 of the Oxford Astrazeneca jab.

The community vaccination centre at Beau Sejour will open two weeks today (25 January) and over 75s will be the first group to be immunised there.

Public Health says up to 3,000 inoculations a day can be done there, stocks permitting.

Dr Nicola Brink has called it a 'huge effort' and thanked everyone involved in the largest vaccination programme the Bailiwick has ever seen.

People are being asked to be patient and wait until they are contacted for their vaccination.

The first of Alderney's vulnerable residents were set to receive the Oxford AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine today after the States of Alderney brought forward this week's meeting to give the necessary permissions that will allow the vaccination programme to go ahead.

The States of Guernsey says it will publish vaccination data weekly to keep islanders updated on the rollout.
