Seasonal beach restrictions for dogs and horses begin again in Guernsey

Dogs and horses are banned from several beaches around Guernsey during the busy summer season.

From 1 May until 30 September, every year, dogs are banned from:

Fermain
Petit Bot
L'Erée
Vazon (Northern end)
Cobo
Port Soif
L'Ancresse
Pembroke

Dogs are never permitted on Lihou Island or the causeway.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne says the rules protect several species.

“It is really important when enjoying the beaches and coastline with your dog that they don’t upset the wildlife, as migrating birds use them as a rest stop and many others are feeding and breeding.

“We are coming to the end of the seal pup season, but we pups can be separated from dogs scaring the Mums back into the water if they aren’t under control, separating them from their young."

Horse rides on Guernsey beaches are also forbidden between 10am and 7pm during the summer months.
