Police spent Tuesday (27 February) carrying out a forensic examination of the severely damaged restaurant.
The severity of the fire meant that it wasn't possible to get into the building until Sunday.
On Monday, in a howling gale, a fence was put up outside the once popular eatery, to keep people out and preserve evidence.
Then on Tuesday, a Police spokesman said detailed work was carried out:
“Forensic examinations have been carried out at Octopus today (27 February). Enquiries are ongoing as to the cause of the fire, however the ‘police scene’ has now been closed and handed back to the owner."
The building was wrecked by the blaze, particularly the rear section where the kitchen, bar and toilets had been. Because of its fragile state, Police will keep watch over it:
"Guernsey Police will continue to assist the owners with securing the site, however, for public safety purposes and to ensure no one attempts to enter what remains a dangerous premises.”
