Guernsey Water has completed the replacement of the ageing water main beneath Mill and Mansell Street.
Guernsey Water started work in Mill Street on 2 January 2026.
Teams from Geomarine and Tarmac Services worked their way up to Mansell Street, replacing 300 metres of cast-iron pipes dating back to 1946, which had burst twice in 2025.
They also lifted, cleaned and relaid thousands of paving stones.
The new, larger plastic pipe is designed to secure the water supply in the area for decades.
Capital Delivery Manager Carl Falla said the work is part of Guernsey Water’s £7.8 million upgrade plans for 2026.
“This is the first major capital project of the year and will ensure a sufficient and resilient water supply for residents and businesses in that part of St Peter Port for the rest of the century.
“I want to thank those who live and work in the area for their patience while we undertook this project.
"Proactive, planned works are always preferable to emergency repairs.
"This more durable plastic main will reduce the need for emergency interventions in the future.”
