New Alderney runway at design stage

The project is not costed yet, but repairs to Alderney runway so far this year have reached £460,000.

Policy and Resources has responded to a detailed series of questions from Alderney politician Alex Snowdon.

They tell him that a design for a runway is being worked on and that it will essentially be a new runway.

The base and surface will need to be replaced, but it will not be lengthened to take larger aircraft, as originally envisaged.

Guernsey's senior committee plan to get a policy letter to the States by December '25 which will update members on progress to date on the runway rehabilitation.

It will not discuss the terminal, fire station or control tower although the latter is known to have a limited life span following cracks appearing last summer.

Economic Development has confirmed it is looking at the feasibility of an inter island air service that could be like the old Aurigny model, with smaller planes serving all three main islands.
