Islanders can now customise how they view Guernsey Airport's website.
Guernsey Ports has added ReciteMe’s assistive technology to the airport website.
Pressing the red icon in the bottom right-hand corner will allow users to change text size, colour scheme, font style, and spacing.
The ‘ReciteMe’ technology can also translate the website’s contents into more than 100 languages, including 65 text-to-speech voices.
Guernsey Ports Customer Services Manager, Mal Mechem, says this will allow more people to access flight updates, facility information, and the terminal guide.
The States Disability Officer, Gill Evans, says it will serve different communication needs.
“In Guernsey, it is estimated that around 13,000 people live with various disabilities.
"Some may find it challenging to read large amounts of text, so features like highlighting key points or adjusting colours can make a significant difference.
"Others may require information translated into different languages.
"This tool enables individuals to tailor how they view and interact with the website, ensuring that the information is accessible and easier to understand for everyone."
Chantelle Tucker from the Guernsey Blind Association is pleased with the technology.
“Living on an island, freedom of travel is a vital part of independent living.
"We are delighted with how keen and proactive Guernsey Ports has been in continuing to develop its inclusivity with air travel.
ReciteMe provides accessibility features that enhance the website experience for all users, regardless of their needs, promoting inclusion within society by breaking down barriers to access information which will greatly benefit so many people both locally and also visitors.”
