June brought near-record-breaking heat to Guernsey

The island saw its second-hottest June ever, according to Guernsey Met.

With an average daytime temperature of 17°C, last month came within 0.3 degrees of matching the record set in June 1846 where the days averaged 17.3 deg C.

Temperatures were, however, 2.2 degrees above the 30-year average.

Guernsey also saw 9 more hours of sunshine than normal and 6.8mm less rain last month.

Temperatures are building towards this coming weekend with a high of 28 deg C forecast for Sunday.

A yellow heat health alert has been issued for southern England where it will reach the low 30s.
