Guernsey students surpass global average IB results

Guernsey's Sixth Form Centre has recorded its 'best ever' International Baccalaureate exam results.

17 students at Guernsey's Sixth Form Centre took on the International Baccalaureate Diploma this year and 100% passed.

On average, Guernsey students scored 35 out of 45 points, above the global average of 30.3.

Two students achieved 42 and 43 points, equivalent to 4 or more A* grades at A Level, and have both been offered places at Cambridge University.

The two-year programme sees students study six subjects - from the arts to the sciences - and is considered to be of high academic difficulty.

Sixth Form Principal Kieran James says the pupils and staff should be proud:

“Our IB Diploma results this year are among our best ever, and significantly higher than the global average.

"We are thrilled with these Diploma scores, which are a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of their teachers.”

Director of Education Nick Hynes called the results 'impressive'.

“Congratulations to all students who took the full IB Diploma or IB certificates.

"This is a very impressive set of results and a credit to both students and staff at the Sixth Form Centre.

"I’d like to wish all of the students the very best in taking their next steps after sixth form.”

The qualification at the Sixth Form Centre is being paused this coming academic year, because of low student numbers.
