Who knew that felines in the GSPCA's cattery enjoy a good book?
Les Beaucamps students will head to the GSPCA today (18 March) for their third session reading to the cats in the cattery.
The school approached the Shelter and manager Steve Byrne says it has happened before, so they decided to go for it:
"They have a number of students who they were keen to bring up on a weekly basis to improve their reading skills and wellbeing."
The initiative, it turns out, is the purr-fect way to engage the pupils while soothing the cats and getting them used to human company although in the picture you can see the cat is more curious than sitting attentively:

"The cats seem to enjoy the company and the children improve their reading skills and enjoy coming to the GSPCA to see the animals in our care."
"It's well known that animals enjoy the company of others."
"Sometimes they have the cats in their company and sometimes they'll sit next to the cat box door and engage with the cats that way."
Island FM wondered what sort of books cats might enjoy - 'Miaow Ado About Nothing' - for instance, so we did a bit of research and came up with this list:
- Tabby McTat by Julia Donaldson
- Mog by Judith Kerr
- The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss
- Oi Cat by Kes Gray
- Slinky Malinki by Linley Dodd
- Macavity The Mystery Cat by TS Eliot
- Rigatoni the Pasta Cat by Michael Rosen
- Cat Kid Comic Club by Dav Pilkey
- Atticus Claw, Word’s Greatest Cat Detective by Jennifer Gray
- The Bookshop Cat by Cindy Wume
