Guernsey Popular With French Day Trippers

Victor Hugo and his Hauteville home are big a draws for French day trippers.

There's a considerable percentage increase in the number of visitors from Normandy using the Manche Illes ferries.

Figures from Manche Illes Express, published by Visit Guernsey, show a 182% jump in passenger numbers for the first half of the 2023 season, compared with a year ago.

Manche Illes say that equates to around 1,000 visitors.

Under a trial scheme, French day trippers without a passport can come to Guernsey using their National ID Card.

Manche Illes is co-owned by the government of the Manche Departement and mainly transports French people living on the Cotentin to Guernsey, Jersey, Sark and Alderney.

It uses the ports of Dielette and Carteret as departure points.

For those coming to Guernsey, Victor Hugo's Hauteville House is the big draw.

Manche Illes says its Jersey - Guernsey passenger numbers have increased by 235%.
