Dr Sandie Bohin, a paediatrician from Guernsey's MSG, has been training doctors in Vietnam.
Dr Sandie Bohin spent two weeks in March '24 helping the at the OBGY hospital in Hanoi, with the charity Newborns Vietnam.
More than 40,000 babies are delivered at the facility each year, by medical staff without specialist training.
Dr Bohin hosted lectures and carried out ward rounds to share her knowledge on effective patient care.
She says the experience was challenging but rewarding:
"The unit was very busy, and a bit chaotic at times, but doctors were keen to learn and grateful to be trained in things that will help them improve.
Fortunately, the perinatal mortality rate (which is the number of babies who die at birth or in the first month of life) is declining each year and now sits at nine per 1000 live births, compared with 19 per 1000 when the charity was established 16 years ago."
The perinatal mortality rate in the UK is 3 per 1000.
