Breakfast clubs in Guernsey primary schools, preschools, and nurseries will receive free milk.
Guernsey Dairy has launched a Milk for Schools programme, giving fresh local milk to breakfast clubs at early years settings around the island.
According to the Dairy and the NHS, milk provides essential nutrients that can help children concentrate and perform better at school.
A 12-month pilot at Amherst Primary, Stepping Stones Pre-School, and La Petite Ecole received positive feedback from children, parents, and staff.
Dairy Manager Andrew Tabel says the scheme is reliant on business sponsorship.
"They (businesses) can choose their education setting.
"For example, if it is a local business situated in a particular parish that has an affinity with a school, or their children go to that particular school, and they want to support this initiative, then we are happy to discuss that bespoke nature.
"Milk is a naturally produced product that is full of calcium and protein, which helps with a young person's, well, everybody's development."
So far, three local businesses have joined the scheme: Praxis supports Vauvert, Island Health helps Vale Primary, and the Skipton Community Fund supports Le Rondin School.
The programme is backed by Myfanwy Datta, States Clinical Lead Dietitian, and Kim Hutchison, Head of Primary Leadership and Development.
