Full-fat milk gaining popularity in Guernsey

Guernsey Dairy says there has been a sustained rise in demand for full-cream Red Milk.

Since 2019, sales of Guernsey full-fat milk have risen by 30%, with more than 750,000 litres sold in 2025.

In contrast, skimmed milk sales have fallen by around 23% since 2019.

Social media influencers have been promoting Channel Islands full fat milk and praising its health benefits which has led to increased UK sales.

Guernsey Dairy's Alex Tielles says this trend is being seen worldwide:

"We think it's a reaction to a lot of ultra-processed food that's been in the market for quite a while now, and people are realising that they want natural, wholesome products, that are going to be good for their body.

"A lot of the big brands in the UK are now something called ultra-filtered, which means that they've had quite a lot of treatment before they get to you in a container.

"We're really proud that Guernsey Dairy Products, what we do is we get it through our system, heat it up a bit to get rid of anything that might be a bit nasty and get it in a carton and get it to you."

Alex says the red cartons contain extra health benefits:

"One of the things to be a little bit cautious of is that there is more fat in full-fat milk, but there are also a lot of benefits.

"It has things like fatty acids in it, your omega-3s, your omega-6s, your calcium, which you find in all milk, and beneficial constituents like beta-carotene which makes vitamin A in your body and gives you good health for your eyes and also your skin."
