Forecasters are changing the way they issue weather warnings for the Channel Islands.
From later this week (6 Aug), Jersey Met will only post them on its website, and not on a dedicated social media account.
Weather warnings are typically issued for strong winds, thunderstorms and snow, with yellow, orange and red alerts depending on the severity.
Jersey Met says it will no longer post them on X (formerly twitter), where the CI Weather Warnings feed has more than 8,000 followers.
Instead, they will be displayed more prominently on the gov.je/weather forecast page for both Jersey and Guernsey.
If one or more is in force, a banner will link to the warning, with an improved layout and description.
Channel Island Shipping Area Wind Warnings will be published on both warning webpages.
Jersey Met says: "A message at the top of the warnings page will show how many warnings are currently issued. If there is more than one warning, scroll down to view them all.
"If no warnings have been issued, this will be clearly indicated on the warning page, and no banner will appear on the forecast page."
The announcement, made on the CI Weather Warnings account earlier, has raised concerns, with several people disappointed by the move away from the social posts.
Jersey's government says the change is part of extensive work to move weather warnings to gov.je and is response to public feedback asking for weather forecasts and warnings to be brought together in one place.
It says this will allow them to reach by a much wider audience, and will provide clearer information about potential impacts.
"The changes will become more apparent when the first weather warnings are issued through the new system."
We're told the Government of Jersey and Infrastructure and Environment social media accounts will still communicate warnings in extreme weather events, where appropriate.
