After five years on the Bridge, The Channel Islands Coop has announced that the Locale store will close on 30 December.
The company says 'recent challenges' within the retail sector have led to this decision.
CI Coop has confirmed there will be no redundancies as staff can be reshuffled, and the in-store Post Office will be relocated to the Nocq Road shop.
CEO Mark Cox says the other island locations will remain open- including the nearby Grand Marché - minimising the impact on shoppers.
He says this is a necessary decision for the business:
“Whilst it is with sadness that we announce the store closure at The Bridge, we are very pleased that all team members will be relocated, and no redundancies have been made.
We are also happy to announce that we intend to move the Post Office store.
We believe the proposed new location at Nocq Road would be of great use and convenience to our local community and are hopeful of its continuity of service.
Locale The Bridge first opened its doors in November 2018
"As with many other retailers, we have faced many challenges in recent years.
Nevertheless by making difficult decisions like this, it allows us to optimise the utilisation of our limited workforce, reduce costs and channel resources towards areas that make the most benefit our Members, team and community.”
