Staff brought in from the UK to cover absence will work accompanied by a local, experienced clinician.
Ambulance and Rescue says the move to bring in agency staff is an operational requirement this winter to cover sickness and staff being away, and is common across other ambulance organisations.
Aimee Lihou, who heads up quality and patient safety at Ambulance and Rescue, says the agency staff are undergoing an induction this week before going on duty, when they will be accompanied by an experienced local crew member:
“Although people in Alderney may see ambulance staff in different uniforms, they will be working alongside our own people, which will help ensure
consistency and continuity.
"All ambulance services utilise a combination of bank or agency staff from time to time to provide short-term resilience and Ambulance and Rescue is no different.”
Aimee Lihou says Ambulance and Rescue have appointed two additional staff from Alderney who will begin work in the New Year:
"We have been planning to expand the size of the Alderney team to improve resilience on a more permanent basis and I am pleased to say that we have successfully filled our current vacancies, so we will be expanding the team to five staff early in 2026.
"The first of those new recruits is already undergoing training in Guernsey, with a second person due to begin their training in January.”
