A sunnier, but wetter than average Guernsey summer

A summer of sunshine and showers made good conditions for rainbow-spotters

The weather statistics for Guernsey in August have confirmed the summer was wetter than normal, but a little sunnier too.

Guernsey Met has revealed the average temperature for the months of June, July and August was 16.4 Celsius degrees, which was very slightly higher than the 30-year average of 16.2 degrees. 

The warmest day of the summer was 31 July, when it reached 26.6 C.

The island recorded around 27 millimetres more rain usual across the three months, at 174mm, and 15 hours more sunshine.

Data just for August shows it was perhaps less underwhelming than it might have seemed, as It was in fact slightly warmed and sunnier than the 30 year average.

However, it was wetter.  Rainfall totalled totalling 67.8mm - around 10mm more than the average. 

Half the total volume of rain came down in just one day, on Friday 23 August.

The warmest days in August came on the 11th and 12th, where temperatures reached highs of 24.4 degrees. 

Compared to the rest of the summer months, August followed a similar trend - with June and July also seeing just above average temperatures, more rainfall and slightly brighter days.
